Earlier this month, we had very exciting guests in town for an even more exciting event! My baby sister is pregnant with her first baby (girl) and we celebrated it up!! Any new baby is special, but finding out we get to add another little lady to the growing girl gang was extra sweet. Of course, part of our celebrations had to include a little couples maternity shoot for my sister and brother-in-law. Even though I’m the first to admit I never felt my most photogenic while pregnant, I really do think it is a special thing to capture if you’re able to. I look back on random candid photos of me while pregnant with each of my babies and truly just marvel at how I was able to do it and how my body was able to accommodate them each time. And now that my older two watched me go thru pregnancy with our third, they’re so fascinated with seeing pictures of when I was pregnant with them too. It’s such a stamp in time for them to see their parents’ “before”.

We rounded out the celebrations with a sweet baby shower, full of florals and subtle nods to Baby G. As I’m sure you’ll come to find as I post more here, there are few things I love more in this world than a good theme, party decorations, and a painted banner. Thank goodness for Trader Joes doing the heavy lifting giving me creative inspiration on the flowers by providing me with gorgeous colorful blooms to work with! The tables were set with bud vases, a medley of our favorite fresh snacks were laid out, bubbles were popped, and some of our most special women arrived to celebrate the new addition to the family. Something I really love about getting to photograph special events like these is knowing that when the whirlwind is over and your special people have gone home, your clients won’t ever have that moment where they look at each other and say “Wow I really hope someone else took a photo because I didn’t take any…”. My sister gets to remember this day, how she looked, who was there to celebrate her, and how special she felt because I memorialized it for her. What an awesome job.

So going into another month working towards getting AEP off the ground, my hope for August is to find more of these opportunities to memorialize the special moments for families. Every time I deliver a new gallery, it’s like a breath of fresh air. It’s crazy how doing what you love doing does wonders for your soul.
